Following the tragic high-speed train collision near Adamuz, in the province of Córdoba, Spain, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Europe Central Area issued the following statement:
We extend our heartfelt condolences to all those affected by the tragic train collision that occurred near Adamuz, in the province of Córdoba, Spain, on 18 January 2026, resulting in the loss of many lives and leaving numerous others injured.
We grieve with the families and friends who are mourning the loss of their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who were injured, and we express our sincere wishes for a full and complete recovery for the many who continue to receive medical care following this devastating accident.
During the three official days of mourning declared by Spanish authorities, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Spain and throughout Europe will join with the people of Spain in honoring the victims and expressing solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy.
We express sincere gratitude for the first responders, medical personnel, railway workers, and volunteers who acted with courage and compassion in the immediate aftermath of this tragedy. We pray that comfort, peace, and healing may be felt by all and we stand ready to offer support and assistance where it is appropriate and welcomed by the authorities and local communities.
