President Rubén V. Alliaud renews deep ties of trust and commitment in Barcelona

Donations support programmes for vulnerable people

On December 17-18, 2024, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints made significant donations to three charitable institutions in Barcelona. Elder Rubén V. Alliaud, President of the Europe Central Area, represented the Church in these efforts. The Church collaborates with humanitarian organisations throughout Europe to ease suffering and care for those in need. “Behind these projects there are always faces, and there are hearts and there are dreams” stated President Alliaud.

Casal dels Infants

The Church has been actively supporting Casal dels Infants, an organisation dedicated to helping children at risk of poverty or social exclusion, since 2023. This collaboration has led to significant improvements in the infrastructure of the organisation’s facilities and providing toys for children. Additionally, the Church has funded 30 percent of the scholarships needed to operate the “children at risk” educational programs.

Raquel Ortega I Clotet, Director of Communication and Citizen Collaborations, stated,” Education is our tool to break the cycle of poverty. The essential help of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is dedicated to supporting the educational and social services that many boys and girls need to improve their situation and mitigate the effects that poverty may have on their present and future.”  President Alliaud added, “This [education] is the greatest act of the day, the greatest equalizer, the greatest source of all opportunities.”

Fundación Convento Santa Clara

The Fundación Convento Santa Clara is a non-profit organisation dedicated to preventing, detecting, and caring for individuals in situations of social exclusion. This includes single-parent families, victims of gender violence, individuals with addictions, vulnerable children and the elderly, immigrants, refugees, and the homeless. The Church has been cooperating with the Foundation since COVID-19, in March 2020, by contributing to its food bank, family gardens, filtration system, water tank, flat renovations, and infrastructure updates for their new storehouse.

“Getting to know the missionaries and, more recently, the leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints up close has been, for me, a true revelation of what it means to sincerely live and share one’s faith,” said Sor Lucia Caram, Director on the Board of Trustees.  “This gives me strength and renews my hope in Jesus’ desire that we all be one.”  She continued by saying “the Foundation of the Convent of Santa Clara feels deep admiration and gratitude to the brothers of The Church of Jesus Christ, with whom we ‘play on the same team.’ The unity wanted by Jesus is real:  come and see.”

Red Cross Sabadell

The Red Cross Sabadell aims to prevent and alleviate human suffering, to protect life and health, and ensure respect for all people. The Church is currently assisting in repurposing space at the Red Cross facility to create a market where those in need can exchange points earned through self-reliance skills for essential items. Recently the Church donated funds to purchase 200 clothing kits and 200 blankets for vulnerable refugees and immigrants in the area.

Montse Font, President of the Red Cross in Sabadell, appreciated the visit of President Alliaud. “The relationship we maintain with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a clear example of how mutual collaboration can generate a positive and transformative impact on society, especially on the most vulnerable people. The recent visit to our headquarters of a delegation from the Church, led by its president of the Central European Area, Ruben V. Alliaud, was an opportunity to reaffirm the deep ties of trust and commitment that we share. Thanks to your continued support, we have been able to develop various projects and agreements that have improved the lives of many people we serve at the Red Cross. It is a privilege to have an ally like The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who understands the importance of working together for the common good and who, day after day, helps us make projects that improve people’s lives a reality.”
