According to a Berlin saying, Wedding is a colourful district. By providing educational and recreational programmes for children and youth with migration background, WIR GESTALTEN e.V. contributes to a peaceful and active cooperation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is supporting the association's engagement with a donation.
On Thursday, 1 August 2024, volunteer work coordinator Mirjam Ekelmann and vice president Sandra Lenke from WIR GESTALTEN e.V. welcomed three representatives from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Wedding Baptist Church. Berlin Stake President Dr. Rolf Reichardt, Cyndi Boye from the Church's Communication Council in Berlin, and Dr. Ralf Grünke, Assistant Communication Director in the Europe Central Area, learned about the work of the association and delivered a letter confirming the donation.
WIR GESTALTEN e.V. was founded by members of the Wedding Baptist Church in 2006. According to the articles of the association, their work is based on “the gospel of the love of God in Jesus Christ”. Among other things, the association offers sponsorships for refugees, as well as help with homework. In the project “Check it out! Try it. Create. Develop,” children ages eight through 14 are creative and engage in arts. They tend a small garden, exercise, and cook sustainably.
Furthermore, WIR GESTALTEN e.V. supports a day centre in Georgia as well as children, youth, and surviving dependants in Nairobi who are in difficult situations due to the effects of AIDS.
“Those who reach out to others and assist them in daily life, keep our society together. The engagement of WIR GESTALTEN e.V. is impressive and encouraging. We highly appreciate and are very grateful for this work, which is exemplary of Christian faith in our time”, explained President Reichardt.
The donation made to WIR GESTALTEN e.V. is funded with means from the Welfare and Self-Reliance Services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Europe Central Area.
