Church Humanitarian Work in Hungary Advances Through New Collaborative Dialogue

Budapest, Hungary 9 December, 2025 — Dr. Téglásy Pál, who leads the Hungarian Secretariat for Church and Nationality Relations, and administrator Violetta Horváth met with representatives of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to explore opportunities for closer cooperation in humanitarian work.

Dr. Téglásy oversees the six-member Hungarian Charity Council, a body that brings together the country’s largest humanitarian organizations to identify and address national needs. He invited the Church’s local humanitarian missionaries to coordinate directly with the Council—an important new opportunity for collaboration.

Expressing appreciation for the Church’s ongoing support in Hungary, Dr. Téglásy emphasized the value of promoting self-reliance. “As Jesus taught, it is better to give a man a net than to simply give him a fish,” he said.

During the meeting, Dr. Téglásy and Budapest Stake President Peter Borsos discussed several of the social challenges facing Hungarian families and communities. Helmut Wondra, the Church’s Central European Welfare Manager, outlined principles and successful initiatives from other European countries that could be adapted to benefit Hungary.

The Church’s current humanitarian efforts in Hungary focus on three primary areas: housing support for individuals experiencing homelessness; educational and developmental assistance for disadvantaged children and adults; and resources for vulnerable families, children, and seniors, including facility upgrades, training programs, and essential supplies

Both parties expressed optimism about future cooperation and shared their hope that coordinated efforts will continue to bless individuals and families throughout Hungary.
